"EQUINE INFLUENZA AND ID.08".

One would have to say that amendments to the INTER-DOMINION,causing it to be intrinsically dependent on the GRAND CIRCUIT were controversial to say the least.
My view is that we had nine (9) great "grand circuit quality" heats in the original format. Now we must put up with a "hit or miss" system of semi-final eligibility with our gratest horses being given less exposure to the public.
There is no doubt that the "GRAND CIRCUIT" races for the calendar year 2007 have been ruined by EQUINE INFLUENZA.
We really need to bite the bullet now,and demand a return to the old format,at least for "ID08".
If we don't plan to change it back now,the administrators will come up with the excuse that it is"too late to change"....

ANOTHER THOUGHT ON THE "EI" CRISIS.

Given that the actual dollar figure for the COMMERCIAL HORSE ASSISTANCE PAYMENT (CHAP) is not yet set in concrete, nor the end user of the dollars clearly identified,( as this is written,a conference is in progress in Canberra to decide the final formula)the following thoughts from a Rockhampton Qld based harness trainer/owner/breeder who, although lacking race opportunies due to a state of recess applying to harness racing north of Redcliffe wishes to remain active in the sport/industry."ALL HORSES WHICH ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE CHAP PAYMENT SHOULD RECIEVE ONLY THE BASIC $20 PER DAY.THAT INCLUDES THE THOROUGHBRED CODE.IF TRAINERS ARE SUFFERING HARDSHIP DUE TO LOSS OF INCOME THEN THEY SHOULD APPLY FOR THE $5,000 BUSINESS ASSISTANCE GRANT,AND,HAVING EXHAUSTED THIS THEY SHOULD THEN APPLY FOR THE "EQUINE WORKERS HARDSHIP WAGE SUPPLEMENT PAYMENT".THE OUTLOOK FOR RESOLUTION APPEARS TO BE LONG RATHER THAN SHORT TERM,AND PEOPLE CAN ADDRESS PERSONAL HARDSHIP FAR BETTER THAN OUR TOTALLY DEPENDENT FOUR LEGGED MATES"...Darryl Wells.Rockhampton..

THOUGHT NUMBER ONE...THE CURRENT CRISIS..

"They are trying to implement a containment strategy. If the DPI was a fire department, the country might be in ashes already.Instead, perhaps we now have to wait six months for the flu to destroy our industry"..Jeroen Nieuwenburg...Large,broad spectrum investment in harness racing Australia wide.
