MID-FESTIVE SEASON RACING AT "THE ROCK"..

Race 1 Astute Gordon Stevenson trained Prima Bella Rosa, a 4yo mare by Famous Forever and well driven by Gary Lefoe was a well-backed race mare in winning the first of the card as an easing favorite, but in convincing style.

Race 2 Jet Laag 3yo gelding, Jet Spot from a Fake Left winning producing mare gave owner/ breeder and trainer Bob Foster a welcome win with in-form stable driver Gary Whitaker in the sulky.

Race 3 Mister Attitude “Cody” by Camcracker gave his prominent Ricky Gordon stable clients a welcome return to winning with an all the way win in good time and make the Christmas Party a healthy celebration.

Race 4 The revitalized Colby’s Pride for trainer Leon Cross gave youthful Steve Doherty an armchair ride in this week’s strong win, to make it 2 wins in 2 weeks at the Rock, with many more to come for this consistent pacer..

Race 5 Consistent President Tern driven by Gary Whitaker is making his run for Horse of the Year at Rocklea and is easily handling the class rise with every victory and those in opposition will find him hard to run down.

Race 6 “Age does not weary them”, just ask Brad Williams and Gordon McCrae, they say they are as young at the track as they were in the 9o’s. Collateral Damage a 7yo by Albert Albert gave the longtime duo a New Year’s Eve gift for 2008; follow the horse and driver in 2009.

A new Rocklea committee has been formed at the Rock with President Steve Jory, Vice-President Glenn Macdermott, Treasurer Geoff Allen-Ankins and new lady on the committee Glenda Rolfe.

Past President Paul Bolack and loyal committeeman Les Smith have stood down because of health reasons to form a sub-committee for Promotions & Marketing during 2009 for the implementing of on track feature races and sponsorship in the Trackside Restaurant.

The club is gradually becoming the place to be on a Saturday afternoon for a cheap low cost meal and free harness racing and mini trotting entertainment and a place to bring the family and for Mum and Dad to have a bet in comfort and friendly surrounds.

THE WORD FROM THE ROCK FOR SATURDAY DECEMBER 20..

December 20 Rocklea Results
Race 1 The Holy Grail a 3yo gelding bred and owned by Scott and Tracy Williams by Ramsey Hanover from the very good winning race mare Nanna Sue, gave trainer Scott a welcome return to winning races at Rocklea

Race 2 Boodua Eagle trained and driven by lightweight vigorous driver David Litzow was a great Christmas present win for Trevor Fritz, a man with many decades of harness racing passion and breeding.

Race 3 Colby Pride was a last stride winner for a group of happy owners from the Leon Cross Tweed Heads stables, with youthful Steven Doherty making the win much more memorable, as the well-backed pacer got up on the line.

Race 4 A race of many chances, but with no real dangers, with Presidential Term driven by in-form driver Gary Whitaker not allowing any challenges to come close to his front runner and then masterfully steering the horse to victory.

Race 5 Brian Manzelmann / Steve Doherty (age and youth) is a successful combo, they made winning look easy with Sunshine Sam in the race with a sweeping run to collar the leaders and winning nicely.

Race 6 Chantal Turpin gave the bookies something to take home for Christmas Lunch with here brilliant drive on Gordon Lightfoot (not the singer, but the horse) outclassing the field, leaving them with “If I had you on my mind”. Warren Hinze has very nice Rocklea horse here and he will win many more in 2009.
** Rocklea committee and members wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Punting New Year with the hope of a more prosperous income from the racing and betting on track.

Rocklea club is excited about the new people coming along to enjoy the racing and the restaurant facilities and are very keen to see social clubs and company office parties conducted at the Trackside Restaurant with entertainment by the club members and committee working hand in hand to give you a great day at the trots on a Saturday afternoon.

Race 1 The Full Circle is a great winning name for the Gary and Joedy Whitaker team, as they bred, owned, trained and Gary drove this Fleetwood Adam mare in her first win.
Race 2 Gary drove his second winner on the Washington VC pacer, Presidential Term coming with a withering run to gathering the field, winning easily for trainer Steve Woodward.

Race 3 An outstanding win by All The Best Bye for debut trainer Jennifer Buitenhuis-Corke and driven by top lady driver Lola Weidemann was a magnificent sight for stable clients for this new lady trainer in the industry.

Race 4 Still Standing was back at Rocklea for trainer Mal Charlton and showed a clean set of heels in quick time for driver Steven Doherty to the rest of the field and making the ROCK a place to come to for more wins.

Race 5 Ron James had the River Khan gelding Khan Ricciuto in prime condition for ace driver Steve Doherty’s second win of the day and giving the punters a thrill in the all the all win.

Race 6 Tibetan Tiger trained by Jenny Buitenhuis-Corke made the day a date to remember for the stable, with an impressive win in the last driven by Gary Whitaker at good odds and good winning bets.

*Three wins to Gary Whitaker, 2 to Steven Doherty and I to Lola Weidemann is a true indication of the theme of follow the good drivers on the best placed and trained horses and you will not go wrong.

Strong close-up racing at Rocklea is giving the punters and the patrons the excitement of fast on track harness racing and the thrill of over the fence interaction with people and horses.

A LOOK AT THE ROCKLEA DEAL FOR LAST SATURDAY DECEMBER 06

Race 1 Mick Lacey and David Litzow kicked the day off with the Bonamax- bred Francies Gift in a good win as favorite with impression there is more to come.

Race 2 Odds-on favorite Bicycle Bill, professionally trained by Brad William and expertly driven by Gordon McCrae gave the punters plenty to cheer about in the second.

Race 3 A top-drive by Trent Hodges on Master Cullen by Christian Cullen, gave the Annetts family a welcome win with an excellent front running drive.

Race 4 Older 7yo full-sister to the first race winner, Carrama Karma, trained by Gavin Wright and driven by the Man Of The Moment Clint Sneddon, won as a good thing under expert guidance.

Race 5 The unstoppable Clint Sneddon, made winning look easy on Toora for trainer Gavin Wright and he must be in line for a stable bonus this year, the way he is inspired.

Race 6 Sutton returned to form this week for trainer Pat Beagan and stringbean man Gary Whitaker in the sulky to end the meeting on a high with come goods taken out of the ring.

** Bookies won on the day, but punters working on the local trots, came out on top with some skillful bets on front runners and in-from drivers like Clint Sneddon and Gary Whitaker.

Hot and humid on the ground, but the Trackside Restaurant is air-conditioned, just like the Tote Auditorium, so there is no reason to stay at home and swelter and have no one to talk to.

A big Christmas race day this Saturday and the mini trotters will be action racing on track and the club has some treats for the kids on track with SANTA looking after the Christmas Spirit at Rocklea.Trevor Perrin..

THE VIEW FROM THE ROCK..

Race 1 Well-trained Catchnpass by birthday boy Graham Harriott gave Steven Doherty the first leg of winning driving double. Graham has been hobbling about after a track fall, but was seen to be running up to collect the cheque later.

Race 2 Sunshine Sam by Slug Of Jin trained by former Mackay mentor Brian Manzelmann won again, giving Steven Doherty a winning race to race double.

Race 3 Toora the Perfect Art mare is proving to be a perfect bet for punters at the Rock, with crafty lightweight, Clint Sneddon in the bike.

Race 4 Gotta Win One for Dennis Rosenthal gave the each way punters some relief and a win that was an indication of the ability of the Hare Hare pacer.

Race 5 The Corazzol family- bred gelding Torque Control from the good mare Celebrity Times was sent out a favorite for Scott Neaves and Scotty did the rest.

Race 6 The last, but a very interesting betting race with the pole marker Gordon Lightfoot driven by Chantal Turpin successful at $5:00 for trainer Warren Hinze. (Lacey Hinze will be driving soon, after competing all of her trial drives, so watch out for a very good girl driver with ability).

Bookmakers and tote are getting hit hard every week by informed punters, so the boys are opening up the odds this week to give them a chance of recouping the Christmas Turkey money.

You got to give credit to trotting people where it is due, 12” of rain and wet dangerous roads, damaged tracks and washed away paddocks… They just keep turning up filling the fields at the races and trails.
