Marburg Results Comment
Last Saturday’s brilliant raceday with the largest crowd at Marburg since the initial race meeting concluded this block of schedule race meetings at the Showgrounds.
Federal Member Shane Neumann , State Member Wayne Wendt, Ipswich City Mayor Paul Pisasale and local Division 10 Councillor David Pahlke, plus Harness Racing Queensland were represented, along with major sponsors and personalities contributing to the day’s race presentations, patron prizes, raffles and giveaways.
Everyone agreed on the success of the harness racing meetings at the Marburg Showgrounds and said they all were looking forward to a spectacular meeting with bookmakers on Boxing Day, and then a schedule of meetings with dates to be confirmed for 2010.
Race 1 Ron Sallis trained Eclipses Ace has now won 3 from 3 at Marburg, with good friend John McMullen taking the reins this time for a cool drive and giving punters an easy odds on winning bet. Eclipses Ace has now had 3 different drivers on him in the 3 wins and also has Ron the lead in the Marburg Trainer’s Premiership.

Race 2 Chillaxengirl ($13 outsider) by Monarch Farm’s leading sire Miles McCool debuted for the Sallis stable with Glenn Dawson in the hot seat to steer the free running mare for the bookmakers cheering her to the finish to make up for Ron’s previous odds-on winner, who took most of the bookies cash.

Race 3 Nanna Pearl for trainer Scott Williams showed her liking for pole position from the stands and expert driving tactics by Lola Weidemann to go from barrier to post all the way in great fashion. Miss Flacon finished hard for Tom McGuire for second and will be in most punters black book for next her start.

Race 4 Liverpool was the top on-track tip and recently returned Clint Petroff showed he had not lost any of his driving skill as he steered the gelding to victory for owner/trainer Shaun Gillespie from the Brisbane visitor Melton Lumber Max for Kellie Dawson. Shaun is best-known as one the top trotting trainers in Queensland, but he has a great record with the other gait as well.

Race 5 Ray Law Jnr. picked up the winning drive on Langus Cam in a thrilling blanket finish in fast time from Chantal Turpin’s Hotshot Rocket who was a little unlucky in running and is worth following next start. Ray Law is one our best young drivers in the state and the punters can be a assured you will always get a vigorous, smart race drive from this lad.

Race The grandmaster of harness racing Ray Cross was seen to his clever best again on Dallas Wilkins owned & bred 8yr old gelding Justcorkit from Scenic Rim a good second for Damian McCrae. Patrons and punters alike were cheering the legendary trainer/driver to the line, even if they didn’t back the pacer, Ray is one of our most popular personalities and is well-known as the Long Shot King.

A NARROW DEFEAT IS NO DISHONOUR WHEN YOU GIVE YOUR ALL..

"TROT TACTICS"..29/08/2009..

Well, the local juvenile star,Lanercost, failed by only a half neck to write his name on the Breeders Crown Honour Board last Sunday at Victoria's Tabcorp Park.Fernvale based trainer/driver,Darrel Graham was far from disappointed with the the colt's effort, pointing out that it took the New Zealand 2yo of the year,Smiling Shard, and a brilliant 1-57.8 mile rate to bring about the narrow defeat.Importantly,Lanercost fought back strongly when headed in the run home.$46,650 jumped into the bank account for second placing, and, while the colt is enjoying a well earned spell,Darrel Graham will be making long range plans for a spectacular 3yo campaign, based on his last three runs at the highest level.

Natalie Rasmussen is in the spotlight again. This time it's not through the sensational performances of Blacks A Fake, but it's a trailblazing performance just the same.Ms Rasmussen has an unbeatable lead in the Albion Park Drivers Premiership for the season which finishes tonight. Rasmussen, currently sitting on 57 winners is 12 ahead of nearest rival,Shane Graham with only 10 races to go.Both are likely to add to their totals tonight but it won't affect the end result.Natalie Rasmussen is the only female to be inducted into The Queensland Harness Racing Hall Of Fame. There doesn't seem to be much left for this superstar of the sulky to achieve, but,in this case, the sky is the only limit..

Marburg races again, today week,September 05.There are three big factors which should entice you to the course.Good racing, excellent snackbar food, and the fixed-odds provided by the bookies. There is something stimulating about the contest between punter and bag-man,a battle of opinions to be decided by four-legged third parties out on the track. It is a soul less process to bet with a machine which reaps it's share without risk.Get out to Marburg and bet with the men..Regards,Denis..

Marburg Return Mail
Race-goers had a field day at Marburg last Saturday in glorious sunshine and generous bookmaker odds to even tempt the moderate once in awhile punter. Our Brisbane raider Peter Grieg, gave the favorite punter no reason to worry with an impeccable patient drive to win on the Burwood Stud, Pittsworth bred 3yo Dusty Roman. Steven Doherty rated the heavily-backed Unwanted Cargo in front to perfection, but experienced guile of Peter Greig at the rear of the field waiting to the last minute made the sprint home a nail biter & a winning move.
A little bit of luck and Ron Sallis expert training first –up fitness polish, gave the well-backed Eclipses Ace the win for his new owners with a bright future ahead as a 3 and 4yo under Ron’s care. Second placegetter Boston Road was a little stiff in running and is the horse to follow wherever Tim Gillespie may start him, especially if at Marburg next month.

Bookmakers were reeling are the first two races and were looking to lengthen odds in the markets to attract a wider range of bets to receive some respite from the massive punter’s winning run. Nicole Hanrahan driving Miles McCool gelding Sam McCool in the Harness Talk Trainers Trophy Pace gave bookies their wish and in doing so, her winning drive was full of class and a matter of her knowing ability of the stable star and judging the drive to the line to perfection with a head to spare over Amazing Oliver and Jeans Promise filling third with favorite Im Troy in fourth. The bookies got the lot, but Nicole receives the main race trophy and the stable follower’s appreciation.

The expected fireworks and race tension of Race 4 did not let the large number of new patrons and punters to the Marburg track down as the action continued off the track in the stewards room with a protest fired in by Second placegetter Dale Chalk (Watchandwonder, heavily-backed odds on $1.65 favorite) against the original winner Scott Neaves (Silent Promises, who lead, with Watchandwonder outside leader and the margin was a half-head on the line).
After a long deliberation with some anxious odds-on punters sweating out the result, the placings were reversed with Marburg’s Wayne and Dale Chalk’s Watchandwonder declared the winner. The effort by the runner-up was a huge effort with trainer Chris Knack doing a great job with him and is certainly another one to follow.

The win by Watchandwonder at the new race meetings at Marburg was as good as winning at Albion Park for my family and myself, Dale Chalk was quoted as saying, and he paid tribute to the local newspaper coverage and crowd response the race days at Marburg receiving and his victory was a wonderful boost for his town of Marburg and the local watering hole , the Marburg Hotel.

Karrabin’s Claim And Conquer (by 3 time Inter Dominion winner Our Sir Vancelot) made it 2 from 2 at Marburg for gifted female trainer/driver Jennifer Learoyd and husband Matt by leading a smart field all the way, holding out the fast finishing heavily-backed Signor Salvatore (Peter Grieg). In her short career Jennifer has attracted the attention of some smart harness racing people and they all agree, she has ability to go all the way with the right horses she has the right attitude and dedication that is missing in some industry participants.

Ultimate Falcon gelding Jimmy Ultimate for Calvert trainer/ driver Greg Elkins closed the racing program off with an emphatic win in the open company discretionary handicap, holding off the Scott Neaves driven Sutton in brisk time at odds-on quote and never gave punters a moment’s concern. The quality of open class racehorses will be a star attraction at Marburg with many of the top stable in the area having Albion Park consistent performers in their barn, but Greg will have many wins up his sleeve with this fellow against better company.Trevor Perrin..
