MORE AMATEUR DRIVERS NEEDED..

While the Queensland amateurs may have enough drivers who have registered to form a challenge team of 5,we need more than that. This movement in Queensland, represents the thin edge of a very large wedge that could do a very great deal to assist the revitalisation of trotting in Australia. The amateur driving ranks world-wide,are known for their appeal to wealthy people, whose business interests would take precedence over the time consuming hobby of training a horse or two.The same people seem to have little problem paying to have horses trained by professional trainers, and driving them for pleasure and profit. Also,a social side to race meetings developes, which has been missing from our so-called "industry' in recent years.
This is YOUR big chance.Ring Rod Brough at QHRB. 3624 8912..

QSTA SEEKS TO PROTECT MAIDENS.

Following on the success of the "conditioned handicap ." format in provincial trot races, the QSTA has requested that the QHRB programmer make an adjustment to the placing of one of the events. It was thought that the T0--T4 at set marks, with T5,6 and 7 on 50 metres, would suit a wider segment of trainers with trotters if it was scheduled for Friday nights at Gold Coast. This move would provide access for hobby trainers, and the format provides the best level of protection for the maiden or "green' horse, which has suffered badly under discretionary conditions.
Further,it has been requested of the board, that a race be programmed for the Gold Coast Thursday meeting, aimed at those not earning too frequently. This would be a discretionary handicap, for horses that have not,for example, won $1,000 at their last 4 starts. 08-05-2006..
