If you want some advice on how to start the New Year properly just have a word with father and son,Noel and Steven Doyle.Here we are,just 8 days into 2011 and the Doyles already have two winners on the board.Steven was up on the scoreboard in race 3 at Redcliffe last Wednesday night thanks to a strong effort by Livet Lady.The 8yo daughter of Live Or Die has always shown consistency,but,since joining Steve's small team is going extra well.Mathew Neilson had the drive.Noel rang up number one later in the night when Barty Cockburn steered Hija De Diose to victory.It was two in a row for the 4yo Armbro Oliver mare having scored the previous Thursday at Gold Coast,again with Cockburn in the bike.Let's hope it's a pointer for good things to come.
Back in the land of the regular winners,Pete McMullen finshed out the old year with 70 wins and Chantal Turpin with 42.CT has very few claiming concessions left but recent classy additions to the family team from the Trump Park operation look likely to keep the pot boiling for the forseeable future.
If you would like to race a horse but are concerned about financial risks here is a sure fire way to tangible success.All you need is a bank account and a ledger book.It is an exercise on paper.Go to the yearling sale,and when a well bred yearling that you like is knocked down to some one else bank the sale price in your account.Do the same for all the normal expenses that your imaginary horse would incur as it is developed into a track proposition.Record them faithfully and bank the corresponding amounts.Do this for four years and then check your account.You will find that you have won the equivalent of at least one Group 1 event.It's a better deal than chasing slugs around in the mud hoping for a miracle..
