ONE LAP DASHES...A NICE NOVELTY...LET'S KEEP THEM THAT WAY..

It is reported by Queensland Harness Racing Board sources that the heats of the "TRANSLINK EXPRESS"were well supported by the punting public. These particular events were run over the short course of 1119 metres, and, returned spectacular "mile rates".It shows how far from reality we have strayed, when we assign "mile rates" to races run over a distance less than one mile.It is as realistic to claim that a horse which runs a "quarter' in 28 seconds has run the equivalent of a mile in 1.52.Further,to conduct such events, puts us in grave danger of demonstrating that we should bow to SKY CHANNEL pressure to run harness events that last as long as dog races. It is bad enough to have a virtual monopoly putting our product to air, with out encouraging them to dictate to us what our product should be.Denis.

THE PASSING OF MERV ADAMS ...1917---2007.

Yet another of the stars of the "GOLDEN AGE" of trotting at Harold Park Sydney (1949---1975) was laid to rest last week.MERV ADAMS was in his 90th year when time, the scourge of us all, declared him out.Trainers and drivers are remembered for the horses that they are associated with, and,if ADAMS is to be remembered for three horses from that fantastic period, then SIBELIA,MINERAL SPRING and the most honest of geldings,LEWS HOPE,will ensure that his memory lives on for those who were introduced into the sport at that time.
It was an era of great horses and great men,and the purple and gold stripes of MERV ADAMS were always to the fore.Denis.
