"GEE JAYS GIRL" GERRARD KEATS AND THE FAMILY GROUP..A HAPPY MEMORY..

keats rock.bmp
One of the reasons people race at the Rock,(and there are many) is that you feel that your horse has just won a race.It is,of course, not PROFESSIONAL to have a photo taken, unless it is a major event, and, heaven forbid, that any ceremony should accompany victory in a bread and butter race. This writer was once told that it would cost the average TAB Club $20,000 per season to put on a small trophy for every race, and a figure like that was simply out of the question. This writer thought it was peanuts when measured against the good will it would generate, and has not found any reason to change his mind...Nev Horsfall pic..

REDCLIFFE SALE A RIPPER...."THE TRIUMPH OF THE LITTLE FELLA!!"

Sunday,April 06 has suddenly taken on a new significance in the 2008 Queensland Harness Racing year. Many painstaking months in preparation, the Redcliffe Club's unreserved yearling sale was a howling success.
From a draft of 63 colts and fillies,59 were sold for an aggregate of $193,000,averaging $3,275.Lot 38 was the sale topper going for $14,000.
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF POSITIVE MESSAGES COMING OUT OF THIS SALE.
Firstly,a large number of owners and potential owners are prepared to buy yearlings which are presented to sell at market value, rather than pre-loaded with a "upset price".
Secondly, all the things which we would like to see improved in Queensland harness racing have not managed to kill out the battlers.
Thirdly, given the brilliant response ;,it is likely that numbers will be even higher next year, and,in what is a normal progression, more "age' races will be run. This is what "industry growth" is all about.BREEDING--SELLING--RACING and EXPANSION of a base composed of horses with a FUTURE,rather than the maintenance of a "log jam" of horses wich only have a past.Denis.
