2008 Harness Racing Festival at the Gold Coast Paceway last Sunday was an outstanding success for BOTRA and all who have put their weight behind this breeding expo and harness racing meeting with an assorted mix of stalls, entertainment and sires on parade.
President Terry Macdermott and right-hand girl Margret Reynolds were magnificent in their precise timing of the day and with the running order of the Festival from the 9am start until after the last race.
Gold Coast President Alan Boyd and Rocklea President Paul Bolack were both in harmony of their praise of the day for breeders and harness racing followers, the hope this will be an annual event.
BOTRA wishes to thank all the studs and stallion owners for their participation and they hope the sires receive a full complement of mares to their courts this season.
From Cold Mountain, Egmont Park and Burwood Stud, right down to the one sire stud owners were represented with finely-tuned sires with immaculate coats and great temperament with all the noise going on about them.
Margaret Donohue of Monarch Farm Mutdapilly was judged the winning best-presented stud handler and with a led-in sire from a very classy field of stud grooms and handlers.
From the country visitor to the interstate holidayers, this event is clearly marked down for next year already by the people who count the breeder and horse owners.
Queensland harness racing needs people like Terry and Marg, to keep the faith alive in the industry we love and with sponsorship and help from parts of the industry, the people of BOTRA will continue to fight for all the right issues that affect the causes of the trotting men and women to win at the races or breed their next foal.
