The "Lord Mayor of Fernvale'',Darrel Graham, looks set to be immortalised in bronze at Menangle's Tabcorp Park if he continues his incredible success of the last month.Graham took seven pacers south at the end of January, and installed them at Menangle under the care of his long time foreman,Brett Cargill.Mobile phones and plane trips and "catch" drivers have stitched the operation together as DWG kept the day to day Fernvale operation on the go as well as heading to New Zealand for yearling sales. It has been a great four weeks, with Lanercost,Courageous Annie,Roll On Red Rocket,Montana Falcon,Emperor Montana,Sign To Inverell and Kelly O'Relly cleaning up what are basically NSW's "bread and butter" prizemoney races. So far,$63,436 has jumped in.The bigger money features start now and DWG is hoping that it all stays on track for the next couple of weeks.
Without raising too many hopes,it now seems possible that education/fitness trials may be restored to Marburg in the near future. In answer to a resolution passed at the recent "open" Botra meeting, and the requests of several members and committeemen,The Marburg Pacing Association will re-open the matter of "club" trials as they are known in Victoria,to be run on a weekly basis. It is felt by many that a good part of the current shortfall of horses in the racing pool, can be directly attributed to a lack of trials at Marburg..
Harness Racing's Chief Steward,Mr Martin Knibbs, has been moved sideways by the RQLtd bosses to take up the post of Chief Steward of the Toowoomba thoroughbred region.(formerly Southern and South-west Racing Association).Knibbs, who served under three different harness control bodies, had been a gallops steward for his entire career, including stints in NSW and Hong Kong, and, for one reason or another, never appeared entirely comfortable with the light harness code.He was, however,a courteous and pleasant man and we wish him every success at Toowoomba. His replacement is as yet unknown, but he or she will have general oversight of both harness and dogs.
The consistency award for any week you wish to choose will have to go to the Graham Harriott trained and usually Scott Neaves driven trotting mare,Miss Adelade NZ.In the period 06/08/2010 to 18/02/2011 the daughter of Monarchy and Bergen earnt 22 straight cheques.Impressive to say the least..
